Welcome to Pass It On

quino-al-197082The Excuses:

This blog has been whirling around in my head for several months now and today is the day I am taking the leap of faith and making a commitment to share my thoughts on a variety of educational talking points and tech integration. In the past, I have had the usual excuses of not being able to blog due to work, family, study and other commitments in life, that occupy so much of everybody’s time. Now no more excuses!

The Inspiration:

The inspiration behind this blog is some of the amazing people I have had the pleasure and good fortune of meeting over the past two years, while I have been in my role of ICT Coordinator at my school. The Tech Community in Asia are some of the most incredibly generous people I have ever met and I have learnt so much from so many of them. Mike Pelletier, Dion Norman, Ben Summerton, Steve Katz, Ed Bailey , Nici Foote , Coby Reynolds , Egmond Boon , Adam Hill , Makky Fung and Andrew Chiu are just a few of these legends, who I will reference and talk about more as this blog unfolds. For now, I would just like to say a huge thank you to all of these people who have helped me transform the way I work and educate my students and inspire teachers. I am deeply indebted and grateful to all of you.

The Purpose:

Over the years I have seen many educators go on Professional Development workshops and courses around the world. They get inspired and motivated and have a new energy about them when they return. However, their experiences often stop with them and are not shared and promoted among the wider teacher community. This model of PD is not sustainable. School leadership teams are building capacity in individuals but not creating a team. Pass It On, with it’s many analogies connected to my love of rugby, will explore how teams of educators can grow capacity in each other by simply sharing and celebrating what has been originally shared with them.

Frequency:

Here come the excuses again…NOT!! The next sentence is written with selfish intentions that will motivate me to post ‘regularly’! My goal is two posts a month!! This is April’s opener, so watch this space!!! Please give me plenty of grief if this ‘frequency’ drops off. I look forward to communicating and sharing with all of you and welcome feedback and critiques.

  1. Hi Dickie,

Great start! I like how it is already very honest. In my experience, readers appreciate this. Thanks very much for the mention. I’m sure I speak for us all when I say that you inspire us, too. You make an interesting point regarding PD. We could certainly do more to get the great ideas out to more staff. Blogging and social media is a great start for this.

Can’t wait to read more posts! Keep it up!

    Adam
